May

29 May 2006

I can't believe we're almost at the end my my birthday month! The weekend just flew, we went swimming on Saturday but because it's been a few months since we last went both the girls were a bit unsure at first. But when Kimbelry found out that she could touch the bottom of the pool when on tip toes she was much happier (it was only 80cm deep) and moved around the pool on her own (with floats). Katelyn spent 80% of the time clinging on to me, I didn't even have to hold her - she was holding on so tight.

As we were walking back to the car after our swim I was going to suggest getting fish and chips for dinner, but Kimberly asked David if we could and he told her to "ask mummy" so of course I said yes. Kimberly was thrilled and Katelyn was very happy too - they both love fish and chips. For dessert Kimberly had grown up chocolate ice cream with choc chips and Katelyn had yogurt.
On Sunday Gong Gong and Por Por come to visit, I gave Por Por her belated Mother's Day present, nothing to write home about just some photos of the girls in an album. When the girls woke up from their afternoon sleep we went for a walk to the park. It was very cold but we all had a good time.

Here are some flowers that Kimberly picked for me.

Both girls have been very good, Katelyn appears to have started sleep properly and by that I mean that she is allowing David and I to have a decent nights sleep. She now only wakes up once during the night for a feed and I am sure that if I didn't want to feed her I could put her back to sleep. But I actually enjoy feeding her even if it is 1.30am in the middle of the night.

Kimberly as usally has been very good, in the mornings she even helps to take care of Katelyn while David and I get ready for work.

On the weekend we didn't do much as the weather was very cold and wet, on Saturday morning we went to Billy Lids for a play day with all of Kimberly's Kindle friends (organised by Kristen from Kindle). Both Kimberly and Katelyn had a good time, I was very surprised as Katelyn missed her morning sleep but she enjoyed playing in the ball pit and watching all the older children run around going crazy.

Last Friday I picked up some cute fabric which I have made a skirt for Kimberly with, the light green fabric has little hearts on it that say "Hug Me", "Spoil Me" and "Miss Me and the pink fabric has green dots. I'm also going to make Kim a brooch with the pink fabric just for fun.

When we got home from Billy Lids, Uncle Rob come over for a play which Kimberly always enjoys. Later that evening we had Gran and Pop come over for dinner, Kimberly helped me make creme caramel for dessert (I really should have made it the day before because some the caramel was stuck to the bottom of the ramekins).

We gave Gran her Mother's Day present, I made a necklace out of black freshwater pearls, it was my first go at beading so I don't think it turned out very nice. I'll have to make Gran another one when I get better at it. We also got gran a scarf, Kimbelry chose it so it's pink, and a cook book for when Gran gets her new kitchen.

On Saturday we went to the Ivanhoe street festival and had a great time. We took Kimberly last year but it was on earlier in the year and the weather was much nicer. Because we didn't leave until Katelyn woke up from her morning sleep we missed out on the Humphrey show but Kimberly didn't seem to mind. It was raining when we first got there so we stayed under the shelter and watched the concert (Kimberly danced with the other little children). We were very luck with the weather as when the show finished the rain had stopped, Kimberly got to ride on the carousel and then had a play on the jumping castle and then went on a mini train ride.

Instead of a petting farm this year there was a repile stand where the children (and adults) could touch live repiles. Kimberly absolutely loved it (I don't have any photos of this as the battery was flat) she touched snakes and lizards and even got to hold a baby crocodile.

Sunday was Mother's Day (my third one so far) and I had a terrific day. I got to sleep in till 8 and Kimberly and Katelyn helped me open my present in bed (I got a lovely top) and also got some boots and a new pair of shoes. David then made me breakfast in bed, he had planned on making egg and soldiers but I didn't feel like egg so he just made jam on toast and coffee.

We then had a bit of a play during Katelyn's morning sleep and I got some "free time" which I spent tidying the house (doesn't sound like fun but that's what I wanted to do). When Katie woke up we went shopping (for groceries), also considered to be fun for me. Both girls were very good on our shopping trip and I managed to stock up on lots of goodies so when I have time I can do lots of cooking. In the afternoon Gong Gong and Por Por came over for a play, they bought warm custard tarts (yum), but Kimberly had just eaten so she didn't want any and Katelyn didn't like them. They stayed for a little play, I'm a terrible daughter as I didn't have a present for my mum :( sorry mum.

While David was putting Kimberly to sleep I got to do some sewing. I am in the process of sewing a denim skirt for Kimberly and Katelyn. That's it, that was my day. All in all a very nice relaxing day and very productive too which is a bonus.

I worked from home today so that I could attend the Mother's Day afternoon tea at Kindle. I had a terrific time, up on the wall they had a display of portraits that the children had done of their mothers. I was very surprised with the one Kimberly did of me, I was expecting a big scribble but Kimberly's portrait was very good it had a face and arms and legs. Kimberly's list of questions was also the longest and all her answers were very true. She was asked what makes Mummy sad to which she replied when I am sad, which is so true. And when asked when she liked most about her Mummy she said my hair! My hair has always been a comfort for her, it started when she would get upset in the car and I would sit next to her, lean over so that she could stroke my hair. I would also lie next to her when she slept and she would stoke my hair, now when Kim goes to sleep to plays with her own hair.

On Monday Kimberly went for a test at La Trobe Uni, which was part of the research for as part a thesis. I was so proud, I beamed while Kimbelry answer the questions. It also helped that the facilitator, Emily kept telling me how well Kimberly was doing.

To start Emily hid a toy and Kimberly had to find it, I knew she would do this as we always play hide and seek at home. Then Emily put a sticker on Kimberly's head without her noticing, she then turned on the TV which showed the room and the sticker on Kim's head. She asked Kim to get the sticker, without even hesitating Kim reached for the sticker on her head (not once did she try to get it from the TV), Emily said she had never seem a child react so quickly. She tend asked Kimbelry to name some pictures that she had a in book (100% correct) and emily said that Kim is at the level of a 12 to 13 year old.

Kim did more tests, some she only did OK in. The tests went for a bit over an hour so I think that by the end she was just getting sick of it and wanted to so home. I have the test session on tape and I am sure that in years to come I will still be surpirsed when I watch it.

My birthday, I got spoilt over the weekend (even more than usual). Kimberly and David baked me a lovely cake with a love heart on it and the work "MUM".

When I got home from work there was surprise waiting for me. Both Kimberly and Katelyn were dressed up a fairies (which I didn't think was possible consider katelyn doesn't have a fairy outfit), and there was balloons, streamers and a banner that said "Happy Birthday Mummy". What made is a very surprise was that I didn't expect it at all, I'd only told Rebecca that it was my birthday in the morning and didn't think it was possible to organise everything that she did whilst still looking after my two demanding princesses. She even got me a present which I absolutely loved and used that very night - I got a bath bomb and some bed socks (both in pink because Kim chose them).
